This guide is about refining a search you've already run, not about running a search from scratch. For information about how to search our database, view our user guide on Searching.
Refine search tab
When you run (or re-run) a search, you will be asked to purchase the results (if running the search for the first time) and shown information about the search. Just open the Refine search to refine your search. You will be shown a screen similar to the following:

To refine your search by a particular property, uncheck the relevant Results from… box. For example, to refine by result year, you would uncheck Results from all year, which would give you a screen similar to the following:

You can now uncheck whichever years you do not wish to appear in the final search results (the pie chart will automatically update). If you uncheck all years, your search will be unchanged, as that would result in no records being returned. Once you're happy with your selections, click Refine search. You will be given an opportunity to refine again or pay for the search on the next screen.
Searches that have been refined show up differently in your search history, for more information about using your search history, view our user guide on Re-running a search.
